While Kevin Durant is in the midst of one of the league's best scoring streaks in several years, teammate Russell Westbrook could make a strong run at something that's been accomplished just four times in NBA history.
Durant, Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder go for the franchise's first six-game winning streak in five seasons Tuesday night when they visit the Portland Trail Blazers.
Durant, third in the league with 29.7 points per game, has scored at least 25 in 24 consecutive games - the longest such streak since Allen Iverson's 27-game run in 2000-01.
"I continue to be aggressive and open some stuff for my teammates," Durant said after scoring 29 in Saturday's 104-95 victory at Golden State. "I did a better job of looking on the weak side and taking jumpers there. My teammates got me going in the second half."
Westbrook continues to be the catalyst for the surging Thunder (29-21), who are looking for the franchise's first six-game winning streak since the Seattle SuperSonics won nine straight from Nov. 5-19, 2004.
Westbrook, who has one career triple-double, scored 21 points with 10 assists, seven rebounds and a career-high eight steals Saturday. He is averaging 19.8 points, 9.0 assists, 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 steals during the winning streak.
"Everybody knows it's coming - he's been flirting with triple-doubles all season," Durant said of the second-year point guard. "A quadruple-double doesn't come around very often."
There have been four quadruple-doubles in league history, with San Antonio's David Robinson posting the last one with 34 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 blocks against Detroit on Feb. 17, 1994.
The 21-year-old Westbrook, averaging 18.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists in two career games in Portland, will try to help the Thunder snap a four-game slide to the Trail Blazers (30-23) as they play their final game before the All-Star break.
Portland visits Phoenix on Wednesday night to close the first half of its season.
"That's our goal - to try and get these next two. Just try to carry some momentum into the All-Star break strong and try to fight for position," LaMarcus Aldridge told the Trail Blazers' official Web site after Saturday's 99-82 home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. "The West is pretty close right now."
Portland holds the eighth and final playoff spot in the conference.
The Trail Blazers won 83-74 in Oklahoma City on Nov. 1 in the teams' only meeting this season. Aldridge suffered a bone bruise in his right knee in the first quarter, but Steve Blake had a team-high 18 points while three-time All-Star Brandon Roy added 16 with five assists.
Roy, though, will miss the next two games due to a sore right hamstring that has sidelined him since Jan. 20.
Durant, who missed 17 of 20 shots and scored 16 points Nov. 1, is averaging 14.8 on 28.6 percent shooting during the four-game slide to Portland.
With a victory Tuesday, the Thunder would have as many road wins (15) as they did the last two seasons combined.
